The Recognition of Tinta Negra

March 2018
Decree No. 125/98 established that the mention ''Frasqueira'' was associated to superior quality wines that had the indication of the year they were produced, that were made using traditional grape varieties (according to tradition, these varieties are Sercial, Verdelho, Boal, Malvasia and Terrantez) and that were aged for a period of 20 years. old in oak barrels.
So, it was not possible for producers to bottle wines under ''frasqueiras'' mention, using Tinta Negra grape variety.
Nonetheless, when Decree No. 38/2015 was approved, it made it possible for producers to indicate, in the labels of this type of wine, that the Tinta Negra variety was used.
It recognized the Tinta Negra variety (know in the past as Tinta Negra Mole or simply Negra Mole) as a variety suitable for the production of quality wines.
Over the decades, Justino's has defended and invested in the Tinta Negra variety. Proof of the aforementioned is the various wines marketed in the last few years.
We would like to highlight the Colheita 1995 that was bottled and launched on the market in the latter months of 2006.
